The Ministry of Housing and Water, through the Central Housing and Planning Authority, executed another major milestone in its “Dream Realised” initiative, allocating 1,000 houselots in Moleson Creek on the Corentyne. The event, held at the Classic Hotel parking lot, marked the start of a pilot community that the government plans to replicate across the country.
The 1,000-acre development is set to become a model township, equipped with essential amenities such as government buildings, banks, a recreational park, a horse racing track, and various other facilities. Once completed, the area will offer residents the comforts of modern living, supporting both residential and commercial activities.
Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal, stated that this first phase of allocations will distribute 1,000 houselots, with a total of 2,500 lots available in the area. He noted that the government remains on track to meet its target of 50,000 houselot allocations well ahead of schedule.
“When we make a commitment, it’s not about election gimmicks. It’s about ensuring we are delivering on the promises we made to the people of Guyana,” Minister Croal remarked. He added that the government is set to surpass its 2024 target of 10,000 houselots.
Moleson Creek is expected to become a hub for future development, benefiting from its proximity to the Guyana-Suriname ferry service and the anticipated construction of the Corentyne River Bridge. Minister Croal highlighted that these commercial and infrastructural advancements will further contribute to the region’s economic growth, positioning Moleson Creek as a key driver of development in Region Six.
Speaking with The News Desk, 25-year-old Tiffany Persaud, a mother of one with another child on the way, expressed her excitement upon receiving her houselot. “I applied in 2023, and when I got the call to pick my allocation, I was overwhelmed with joy. This is a great opportunity for me to build my home and provide for my family,” she said. Persaud, who currently lives with family, added, “As soon as they give me the land, I will start to build.”
Another recipient, who applied for her lot in 2017, shared mixed emotions at first, but after learning about the plans for Moleson Creek, she became more optimistic. “At first, I was disappointed, but hearing about the developments coming to the area, I’m very happy with my decision. This is an opportunity for me to create a better living space for my daughter and myself.”
The News Desk also understands that the plots allocated in Moleson Creek are more affordable compared to other areas across the country, making this initiative a welcome relief for many prospective homeowners.
