Police have launched an investigation into the alleged murder of 16-year-old Janelly David, whose lifeless body was discovered in a hammock at Barama Line, Baramita, North West District. The incident reportedly occurred between Wednesday, January 29, 2025, and Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Law enforcement officials are searching for 40-year-old suspect Eon Moore, who allegedly fled the scene on a red Suzuki All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) in the direction of Five-Star Backdam, NWD.
At approximately 11:00 AM today, ranks from the Baramita Police Station, accompanied by Medic Edghilo of the Baramita Cottage Hospital, visited the scene, a makeshift camp measuring 12×18 feet.
Police reports indicate that Janelly David was found lying motionless, face-up in a hammock. She was dressed in a peach-colored top and black short pants. Upon examination, officers observed marks of violence on her right eye and what appeared to be swelling at the back of her head.
Investigators revealed that David and Moore were in a common-law relationship and were living together at the time of her death.
A 31-year-old cook, who resides about 15 feet away from the couple’s camp, told police that she last saw the two together around 6:30 PM on January 29, and the teenager appeared to be in good health. The cook then left for Central Baramita and returned at 10:30 AM today, when she noticed Moore packing his belongings onto an unregistered ATV.
When she inquired about Janelly’s whereabouts, Moore reportedly replied, “She’s sleeping in her hammock.” Suspicious, the cook checked and discovered Janelly motionless, with visible injuries on her face. At that moment, Moore fled the scene on the ATV.
The matter was reported to the Baramita Police Station, and the teen’s body was transported to the Baramita Cottage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A manhunt is currently underway for Moore as police intensify their investigations.
