A tragic accident occurred late Sunday night on at around 11:00 PM, on the #2 Public Road, West Coast Berbice, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old pedestrian.
The incident involved a motor car, PAG 8265, driven by Gansham Munshi, a male Guyanese of East Indian descent, and a parked motor car, PZZ 4450, owned by Everest Japal, a 20-year-old male Guyanese of East Indian descent.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the pedestrian, identified as Aaron Dookaran, a 20-year-old mason attempted to cross the road when he was struck by Munshi’s vehicle. The impact flung Dookaran onto the rear of Japal’s parked car on the opposite side of the road.
Dookaran was quickly assisted by concerned citizens who rushed him to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital. However, upon arrival, he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
