Police in Region Nine are investigating the alleged murder of 21-year-old John Elliot, a tourist guide attached to Atta Lodge and resident of Surama Village, North Rupununi. The incident occurred at about 01:30 hrs today, Sunday, August 21, 2025, during an Amerindian Heritage celebration at Annai Village.
Reports indicate that Elliot was allegedly stabbed during a confrontation with three male suspects, resulting in his death. The main suspect has been identified as a 16-year-old school drop-out (name withheld) of Annai Village. Also implicated are brothers 20-year-old Ronaldo Williams and 18-year-old Orlando Williams, both of the same community.
The stabbing was witnessed by a female police rank attached to the Annai Police Station, who was present at the celebration. She positively identified the 16-year-old as the person who stabbed Elliot in the chest and has since provided investigators with a detailed statement.
Later, the 16-year-old suspect was found at the home of the Williams brothers, arrested, and escorted to the Annai Police Station, where he remains in custody. During questioning in the presence of his mother, the teenager denied involvement, claiming that Orlando Williams had inflicted the fatal wounds.
At around 14:00 hrs today, Elliot’s body was examined at the Annai District Hospital, where two stab wounds were observed—one to the left side of the chest and another to the right rib area. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for September 22, 2025.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two outstanding suspects, Orlando and Ronaldo Williams.
Investigations continue.
