Police ranks who were performing patrol duty at around 15:30hrs yesterday afternoon acted on information received and proceeded to Lot 98 Star Street, Albouystown, where a 25-year-old Buxtonian was arrested and taken into custody for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
On arrival at the address, the ranks observed an unpainted two-storey wooden house facing West in a partially fenced yard. The ranks went into the bottom flat where they saw and contacted an identifiable male of African descent, who was seen sitting on a cupboard in the building. The man gave his name as Darron Hutson Blair, a 25-year-old Vendor from Buxton, East Coast Demerara.
The ranks conducted a search (of Blair and the premises) and they found a black .9mm on a chair which was in the living room area on the bottom flat of the house. Darron was asked if he was the holder of a valid firearms license and he said ‘no’. He was told of the offence committed and cautioned but he remained silent.
A thorough search was conducted on the rest of the house but nothing else of evidential value was found. Darron Blair was arrested and escorted along with the firearm to Ruimveldt Police Station where the gun was dusted for fingerprints. The magazine was ejected from the firearm and it was observed to contain ten (10) live rounds of 9MM ammunition.
Blair was told of the offence committed and cautioned but he remained silent. Darron Blair was placed in custody as investigations continue.
