35th Cohort of Peace Corps Guyana Volunteers was officially sworn in at the Umana Yana in Kingston, Georgetown earlier today.
The event was attended by the Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, who spoke about the significant impact of Peace Corps volunteers in enhancing health education in Guyana.
Comprising 18 volunteers, this cohort underwent a comprehensive 10-week Pre-Service Training program, equipping them for placements in vital sectors such as health, education, and environmental programs across the country.
During his address, Dr. Anthony shared a touching anecdote about a past Peace Corps volunteer whose efforts notably improved health education and fostered a greater commitment to healthcare among the local population.
“We had a peace corps volunteer many years ago who was able to improve health education and encourage people to attend clinics and adhere to their treatments”
The ceremony also saw the attendance of Peace Corps Country Director, Deborah Conner; Nicole D. Theriot, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Guyana; Adrienne Galanek, Deputy Chief of Mission attached to the Embassy of the United States; Jamal Goodluck, Programme Manager – Response, U.S Peace Corps; as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education and other volunteers.
Their presence underscored the importance of this initiative and celebrated the volunteers’ dedication to serving the communities of Guyana.
