The Ministry of Labour through the Board of Industrial Training has turned the sod for the construction of a $44.8 BIT training Center in New Amsterdam.
While speaking at the simple ceremony earlier today, Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton noted that when completed, the facility will be utilized to house the Labour Department in New Amsterdam as well as providing technical training for interested persons in both regions five and six.

“The contractors are asked that the design of the training rooms reach the CVQ standards because we don’t want to come back and have to upgrade again and we will look at the people of region six to utilize this building and region five for their development. Women, young people, retirees all of those persons we hope to train at this facility here.”
Regional Chairman, David Armogan who is also the chairman of the Board of Industrial Training thanked the Government for recognising the need for having such facility in the township.
He said, training is important to satisfy the demands of a changing society, specifically in Guyana with all the innovations and investments that are taking place and will require various skills from citizens.
“And so we are he Board of Industrial Training were given that mandate to us by government through the vice president of course that we have highly skilled certified persons who will be able to take up these appointments… We don’t want people to come from overseas to take up the skill jobs.”
The land which is located at Post Office Street in New Amsterdam was donated by the New Amsterdam Mayor and Town Council. The Mayor of New Amsterdam, Wainwright McIntosh was also present and took part in the sod-turning exercise.
