A 73-year-old pensioner, Aubrey Calder, was found dead this morning in his apartment at John’s Guest House, Lot 100 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust.
According to reports, Calder, who had been living at the guest house for the past four years, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
His relative, 54-year-old vendor Nyshell Jemmott, stated that he had contacted her earlier today requesting assistance in cleaning his room, a task she regularly performed for him. Upon arriving at around 9:30 hrs, she began cleaning and soon noticed Calder sitting in a chair with his head leaned to one side, unresponsive.
After calling out to him several times without a response, Jemmott raised an alarm. Police and emergency medical personnel were summoned to the scene, where a doctor from GPHC pronounced him dead at around 10:00 hrs.
Crime scene technicians processed and photographed the scene, and an examination of the body found no visible marks of violence. No foul play is suspected at this time, though several individuals were questioned as part of the investigation.
Calder’s body has been transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
