Three men who were patients at the New Amsterdam Psychiatric Hospital were remanded on Monday after they were slapped with a murder charge committed against a 31-year-old Bath Settlement West Coast Berbice man who was also a patient at the institution.
31 year old Curtis Robertson of Golden Fleece, 29 year old Kellon Codagon of Wismar Linden, and 36 year old Mark Sampson of Vryman Ervan’s New Amsterdam where not required to plea to the charge which was laid indictable in the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court earlier today.
The allegation which was jointly read to the accused by Magistrate Renita Singh states that on the 19th April at the New Amsterdam Psychiatric Hospital, the three accused murdered 31 year old Dinesh Persaud of Bath Settlement West Coast Berbice.
The News Desk understands that on the day in question at about 05 hours 45, a nurse on duty at the facility was alerted of Persaud being seen on the floor lying motionless with blood protruding from his mouth and nostrils.
He was taken to New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

One of the accused told the court that he felt bad and annoyed about being accused of murder. He said on the day of the incident, the victim was “molesting everybody for ice and I don’t know what he want with ice… he run behind me and fall down and he die”
A Post Mortem conducted on the body on the 21st April at about 8 hours indicated that he died from a fractured skull, shock, and hemorrhage.
The suspects were arrested on 05th April from the New Amsterdam Psychiatric Hospital and video and audio interviews were conducted after which a file was compiled and sent for legal advice.
Recommendations were then made for them to be charged with murder.
After the matter was called in court, the prosecutor asked for six weeks to seek further legal advice on the case. The accused were remanded and the matter was adjourned until the 12th June.
