The police are continuing their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman and her daughter whose decomposed bodies were found in their New Providence, East Bamk Demerara apartment earlier today.
Dead is 38-year-old Petrous Ross and her 13-year-old daughter Gabrielle Ross.
The News Desk understands that the now deceased persons resided in a grilled one-storey wooden and concrete structure in a well fenced yard, which was being rented the 58-year-old husband of the deceased woman.
According to reports, in September last year, the husband moved out of the said house but continued to pay the rent and make visits. He told investigators that in January 2023, he visited them and found them alive and well.
However, when he visited the home today at about 13 hours, to check on the woman and her daughter, his calls to the woman went unanswered. He became suspicious and as a result, with the assistance of a neighbour, they tried open the front door and immediately got a fowl odor emanating from the inside of the house.
They two ventured into the building and made the gruesome discovery of the woman and her daughter lying on the ground in a partly decomposed state.
The police were immediately summoned to the scene and they found three plastic bottles, one glass bottle containing a liquid substance and two cups next to the bodies while two small glass containers containing a whitish substance were recovered from the refrigerator along with a note in the living room.
Blood samples were taken from the bodies of both deceased. The bodies were then removed by undertakers and taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour where they were placed into cold storage awaiting post-mortem.
Several persons contacted, interviewed, and statements taken. The area was canvassed for CCTV cameras, but none were seen.
Investigations are ongoing.
