A fire which is said to be electrical in origin has completely destroyed a one-bedroom wooden building at Eversham on the Corentyne on Tuesday.
thenewsdeskgy.com understands that the fire that left four persons homeless, started at about 14 hours while no one was at home.
Speaking with the thenewsdeskgy.com, one of the occupants, 39-year-old Shondell Hopkinson disclosed that she secured the building and left at 11 hours to visit the bank in New Amsterdam. She said while there she received a call at about 14 hours 30 informing her that her home was burnt to the ground.
Hopkinson said she rushed home only to find the building completely destroyed while firefighters attempting to prevent the fire from spreading. She disclosed that the police were also on the scene.
“When the police and fire service investigate them said is an electrical fire, them said the wire that I use to get electricity from, I don’t know if its an overload or power surge or what” she added.
The security guard noted that she lost everything in the fire. She said, her husband was stocking up on materials and equipment to open a shop to provide for herself and family but everything burnt in the blaze.
