Police are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms committed on Wange Wi, a 32-year-old Chinese businessman of Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara which occurred at about 2 hours 30 on Saturday.
The businessman was allegedly robbed $6,000,000 by three male suspects, two of whom were wearing ski masks to cover their faces. They were each armed with handguns.
Investigations disclosed that the victim resides in the upper flat of a three-storey concrete building situated West (and facing East of the Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara).
The second flat is a storage room while the lower flat is a hardware store. There is a shutter on the lower flat which faces East and gives access to customers. There is also an inner staircase which leads from the lower flat to the upper flat.
According to the victim, he is occupying a bedroom in the upper flat with his 31-year-old wife.
The victim further alleged that on Friday at about 20 hours, he closed up his business place and checked off his monies and it amounted to the sum of $6,000,000. He took same into his room and secured it in a black havesack inside his room.
The victim went on to state that at about 02 hours on Saturday, he was aroused by the sound of someone shouting ‘where is the money’. The businessman said he was confronted by the three suspects who held him and his wife at gun point, tied their hands behind their backs and tied their feet together and ransacked the room and removed the cash which was inside the black haversack. They then escaped.
The suspects gained entry by climbing into the northern roof from the northern building and cutting a hole in the roof (zinc) then cutting the ceiling which is made of sheet rack and jumping into the open area of the upper flat, where they gained entry into the victim’s bedroom.
Two sets of latent finger prints were lifted from the DVR which the suspects removed, but forgot to take with them, instead leaving it behind.
The victim claimed that he managed to free himself and wife and reported the matter to the Police.
Investigations are ongoing.
