The Police in Berbice have arrested the two suspects earlier today along with a 14-year-old female who are wanted in connection with a murder in neighboring Suriname.
23-year-old Shawn Dwayne and 24-year-old Bhopendra Singh were found at the home of Dwayne’s mother in Minicuri Black Bush Polder. A 14-year-old female from Suriname was also taken into custody and told police that she is the wife of Dwayne.
The men are accused of a murder they allegedly committed on Friday 11th August, 2023 at Nieuw Amsterdam in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Following their arrest, the suspects were told of the allegation, caution where the two male suspects admitted to the offense and were arrested and taken to the Whim Police Station along with Dwayne’s mother and his underage girlfriend.
During their investigation, investigators learned that at about 21 hours on the day in question, the two male suspects were drinking with a few friends in front of the home of the 14-year-old in Suriname when a male who’s name was given as Chris Persaud arrived in a bus to talk to one of the neighbors when an argument ensued between Persaud and the suspects.
As a result, Persaud ran back into the bus and returned with a cutlass, and started chopping Dwayne. thenewsdeskgy.com understands that Dwayne managed to overpower the victim and he ran into the house and picked up a knife and ran back outside where he dealt Persaud one stab to his chest.
A friend of Dwayne identified as Gavindra Herriman called Ajai took the knife from him and cut Persaud around his throat. The victim then got up with the assistance of a friend and drove away. They then went to the station where they made a report.
However, later in the evening, the suspect was told that Persaud had passed away and they decided to flee the country. The two suspects and the 14-year-old female departed the country by boat and arrived in Guyana the following day.
Investigations are ongoing.
