Police in Regional Division Three are probing a fatal accident which occurred last at about 19 hours 15 on the Leonora Public Road, West Coast Demerara, that claimed the life of 74-year-old Ograsane Samaroo, of Stewartville, W.C.D.
According to the 54-year-old driver of minibus (BXX 6727) involved in the accident, he was proceeding East along the northern side of the road when he observed a black motorcar (PSS 1233), which was stationary on the northern footpath facing East with the driver’s side door opened.
The bus driver further related to the police that the now deceased 74-year-old man was attempting to enter into the car’s driver seat and fell onto the roadway, at which point the left side front wheel of the bus ran over him (Samaroo).
Samaroo was subsequently picked up by police ranks and rushed in an unconscious condition to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
His body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyzer test on the 54-year bus driver showed no trace of alcohol.
He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
