Four persons have been arrested and are in Police custody assisting with the ongoing investigation into the alleged double-murder committed on Melissa Arokium, a 31-year-old self-employed woman of Lot 189 Mangrove Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, and her son Anthony Arokium, an 8-year-old student of Port Mourant Primary School.
The alleged double-murder occurred on Wednesday between 06 hours 30 and 13 hours at their home.
Police in a statement revealed that two brothers of Melissa namely, Serrana Arokium called ‘Food’y, a 33-year-old Cane-harvester, the brother that discovered the body of the victims, Nicholas Arokium, called ‘Nico’, a 26-year-old vendor, the boyfriend of the victim, Shailendra Umrao, a 37-year-old of Belvedere, Corentyne Berbice, and a neighbor of the victim, Deo Naris, a 38-year-old ‘DJ’ of Mangrove Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne Berbice were all detained for questioning.
Investigations so far indicate that Melissa Arokium sustained multiple chopped wounds to the back of her neck, one wound to the left waist and one chopped wound to the left upper hand.
Examination conducted on the body of Anthony Arokium revealed he had several chop wounds to his right side, head, and face.
The bodies were escorted yesterday to the Port Mourant Hospital and certified dead by a doctor on duty. The bodies are at Arokium’s Funeral Home, awaiting PME.
Investigations are ongoing.
