A police officer who recently functioned as a court orderly at the Whim Magistrate Court was remanded to prison when he appeared in court today charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
He has been identified as Elijah George of Number 67 village Corentyne Berbice.
At about 17 hours 35 last Monday, police ranks were conducting a ‘stop and search’ exercise on Weldaad Public Road, West Berbice, when one of the ranks stopped a motor car (PYY 1658), a white 212.
The vehicle was driven at the time by a 24-year-old of Ankerville, Corentyne Berbice. There were four occupants in the vehicle. One of the ranks then asked the passengers to exit the car with their belongings, which they did.
