Although 32-year-old Ashmin Mahadeo of Lot 25 D Williamsburg, Corentyne Berbice is still battling for her life in the ICU of the Georgetown Public Hospital after being shot in the neck, the main suspect in relation to the incident has been granted $300,000 station bail earlier today.
Mahadeo was found with a gunshot wound to her neck on Sunday last, just three weeks away from marrying the man she shared a seven-year common-law relationship with who is also suspected to have committed the crime.
According to information received, at about 07 hours 40 on the day in question, Mahadeo was at home when she was visited by the suspect who was supposed to take her to get her nails done.
They both then left her parent’s Williamsburg home when family members heard a loud explosion and upon checking discovered the injured woman lying motionless at the gate with blood oozing from her mouth.
The male suspect reportedly rushed back into the house and alerted other relatives of what transpired and later returned outside at the scene.
Ashmin’s brother, Naresh Mahadeo had told reporters that after hearing the explosion he rushed out of the yard to see whether anyone left the scene while his wife tried to resuscitate his sister.
thenewsdeskgy.com understands that the woman was shot from the back of her neck and the bullet exited and hit a box in the woman’s family yard. Her cell phone as well as the cellphone belonging to the suspect could not be found.
Police later found an unlicensed firearm hidden in the woman’s bedroom where her command law partner (suspect) had entered before heading back outside to assist with taking her to the hospital.
The man who works as an engineer with the Ministry of Agriculture had been in custody since before he was released on station bail.
While investigators have not disclosed whether gunpowder residue was found on the suspect’s hands or whether the gun found in the bedroom is the firearm used to execute the crime, they could only confirmed that a file has been prepared and sent for legal advice.
Investigations are ongoing.
