Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d), the Honourable Mark Phillips met with the Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Heritage Forum (CHF), and Architectural Historian, Mr Philip Davies and Chair of the CHF, Mr Francis Maude at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence on Main Street, Georgetown.

The two CHF officials were accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Guyana, HE Jane Miller; the High Commissioner for the Day, Ms Alisande Jaiserrisingh and the Programme Manager, Caribbean and Small Island Developing States Department Americas and SIDS Directorate, Ms Kassia De Santos.
Discussions centred on preserving and restoring historic buildings while emphasising their adaptive reuse for sustainable development in combating climate change.
The group also discussed ways of collaboration with local heritage bodies focusing on conservation-led regeneration and funding through the CHF in partnership with the Government and private sectors.
Prime Minister Phillips provided an overview in the context of the maintenance and preservation of historical buildings locally and offered support for the forum’s objectives in these areas.
In addition, he led the delegation on a tour of his home, which was classified as a heritage site earlier this year.
