Corrections personnel at the Mazaruni location were sternly reminded by Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot about their primary role during his quarterly muster and general inspection of officers on Saturday October 14, 2023, at that location.
“As officers, there must never be any doubt that you are observing, analyzing and ready to protect those under our watch. You are here to serve and not to be served. Your work as corrections officers exists because of those under our care and not the other way around,” he said.
The Prison Head also reminded the officers that working in a prison is a truly unique experience since you perform a vital role in society, in an environment like no other.
Further, Mr. Elliot stated that the impact of placing more value on prison officers and providing working environments in which they contribute and succeed is evident, given the government’s plans for prison-building and prison workforce modernisation.
