Police are investigating a fatal incident which occurred at about 17:35 hrs on Monday 18th December 2023, on 16KM Aurora/Tapir trail in Region #7, involving a fuel tanker (#GAD 3757) owned by Demerara Transportation Limited and driven at the time by Tyrone Anthony (now deceased), a 32-year-old of Supenaam, Essequibo Coast.
According to the police, the fuel tanker was proceeding South along the trail, and while negotiating a turn down a slope, the tanker developed a mechanical problem causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and ‘run off’ the trail.
As a result, the driver was flung out of the fuel tanker and pinned down on the ground. He was picked up in an unconscious state by a passerby and taken to the Aurora Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
