A fire of unknown origin destroyed the house that belonged to Julissa Roberts, a 32-year-old Housewife and Tavis Callender, a 33-year-old Miner, at about 21:00 hrs on Wednesday night at Four Miles (Squatting Area), Bartica, Essequibo river.
The destroyed building was an unpainted wooden house, measuring 23 × 25 feet. Investigations so far revealed that the house was powered by several Solar panels.
At around 16:00 hrs on Wednesday, Julissa and Travis secured their home and went to Bartica with their three children. At about 21:00 hrs, Travis said he received a call from a neighbour who informed him that his house was on fire.
On arrival from Bartica, he observed that his house was engulfed in flames. Public-spirited persons made efforts to put out the fire but their efforts were futile. The fire was eventually quenched by Water tender #98 and Water Browser #11 from the Guyana Fire Service.
The estimated value of loss is $4,000,000.
