The Police in Region Five are pursuing five armed men who attacked and robbed a Blairmont Business woman, her husband and a customer of a quantity of gold jewelry, cash and other valuables during a robbery at about 19 hours 15 on Monday.
The businesswoman whose name was given as 49 year old Raywattie Persaud, also known as ‘Babita’ of Lot 39 No. 4 Settlement, Blairmont, West Bank Berbice was robbed of one Samsung S21 cellphone (622-8783) valued at $100,000, one A21 cellphone without a SIM card valued at $55,000, three million dollars in cash (Guyana Currency), one gold wedding ring valued at $50,000, an undisclosed amount of GT&T and Digicel phone cards and an undisclosed amount of gold jewelry.
Her husband, Nadir Hussain, also known as ‘Nado’, male, East Indian, age 50, is a businessman of the above-mentioned address reported that he lost one A50 cellphone (643-1257) valued at $55,000 while Mohammed Laikraj, also known as ‘David’, male, East Indian, age 28, a beeman of Lot 30 No. 4 Settlement, Blairmont, West Bank Berbice told investigators that he was robbed of one cell phone valued at $40,000 and one gold chain valued at $75,000.
According to Hussain, he and his wife, Persaud, operate the “Babita General Store” located on the ground floor of their two-storey wooden and concrete house and on the mentioned date and time, he was about to lock his gate on the eastern side of his yard when he saw five unidentifiable men, all wearing dark hoodies and armed with handguns, approached him.
Hussain said that the men quickly grabbed him and took him inside the store, demanding cash and jewelry. They ransacked the store while continuing to ask for money. One of the men then choked him while the others took his wife upstairs, where they ransacked the wardrobe in the front bedroom and took a quantity of gold jewelry.
His wife, Persaud stated that she was in the store when one of the masked men confronted her, took the mentioned items, assaulted and choked her, and allowed the others to search the house.
The other victim, Laikraj told investigators that he was sitting in the shop when the masked men ran in. When he tried to run outside, one of the men grabbed him, took his cellphone and gold chain, and told him to stay put.
The News Desk understands that one of the men then hit Hussain on the head with a gun, causing injuries. The suspects then escaped on foot in an eastern direction towards the Ithaca Koker.
Hussain and Persaud were taken to Fort Wellington Hospital, where they were seen and treated by a doctor before being sent away.
The area was canvassed for CCTV cameras, but none were found. Searches for the suspects were conducted in surrounding areas. Assistance was also sought from Region No. 6 Marine Patrol, but the suspects were not found.
Investigations are ongoing.
