A motorist is fighting for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital with severe head injuries following an accident on Republic Road New Amsterdam this afternoon.
The News Desk understands that 28-year-old Damion Morgan of Fort Ordinance East Canje Berbice was riding a motorcycle with trade plate GPSA 1 and carrying pillion rider, 27-year-old Dominique Williams 42 Stanleytown New Amsterdam. Both had no helmets at the time of the accident.
According to information received, at about 15 hours 45, motorcar PSS 2070 was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane on Republic Public Road New Amsterdam Berbice, while motorcycle # GPSA 1 was proceeding north along the western drive lane allegedly at a fast rate.
As both vehicles were in the process of passing each other, it is alleged that the motorcar suddenly turned west into the path of the motorcycle causing the motorcycle to collide with the front left door of the said car.
As a result of the collision, the motor cyclist and the pillion rider fell onto the western side of the said road, where they received injuries about their bodies. The motor cyclist was pick up in a semi conscious condition, while the pillion rider was picked up in a conscious condition by public spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they were seen and examined by a doctor on duty, who treated the motor cyclist for head injuries and referred him to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.
The pillion rider remains at the New Amsterdam Hospotsl where she is receiving treatment for injuries about her body while her condition is regarded as stable.
However, the driver of the motorcar has since been arrested and is presently in police custody assisting with the investigations.
