A fatal accident that occurred on Sunday at around 7:50 PM on the Onverwaght Public Road, West Coast Berbice has claimed the life of a 16-year-old motorcyclist.
The accident involved a motor car, PAG 906, driven by Sherwin Goring, and a motorcycle, CL 7060, ridden by Jahiem Gangoo, a 16-year-old male of Hopetown Village, West Coast Berbice. A 14-year-old pillion rider, also from Hopetown Village, was injured in the collision.
Initial investigations suggest that the motorcycle suddenly turned across the road into the path of the oncoming car, resulting in the left front of the car colliding with the right side of the motorcycle. The impact caused both the motorcyclist and the pillion rider to be thrown onto the road, where they sustained injuries.
The injured were promptly taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where Gangoo was pronounced dead on arrival. Rigby was treated for his injuries and later discharged.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
