Detectives from Regional Division #3 are investigating the alleged murder of Alexis Roxanne Harris, known as ‘Cullie,’ a 29-year-old farmer from Hill Foot, Linden-Soesdyke Highway. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at around 12:20 hrs in Free and Easy, West Bank Demerara. Harris was allegedly killed by her reputed husband, 35-year-old James Lord, a labourer of East Indian descent.
Reports indicate that Harris, of mixed ancestry, had been living with Lord and their children at Hill Foot, Linden-Soesdyke Highway. However, two months ago, following a misunderstanding and alleged physical assault by Lord, Harris moved out of the home, taking her children with her to her sister’s residence in Free and Easy. Lord had reportedly threatened to kill her, prompting the move.
On the day of the incident, around 12:00 hrs, Lord visited the sister’s residence, allegedly to see his children. According to reports, Harris was on her cell phone at the time, which angered Lord, leading him to snatch the phone and destroy it. Harris then went outside and sat on the stairway, but Lord followed her, pulling out a knife from his haversack and attempting to stab her.
Junior Lord, the suspect’s nephew, heard the commotion and intervened, trying to disarm his uncle. However, during the altercation, James Lord stabbed his nephew in the abdomen. He then turned his attention back to Harris, stabbing her in the left side of her breast and her right hand. Harris attempted to escape but collapsed into a nearby drain, while James Lord fled the scene on foot toward the sea dam area.
Junior Lord was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital by concerned citizens, where he was treated and admitted in serious but stable condition.
Police processed the crime scene, and Harris’s body was transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her remains were subsequently taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlor, where a post-mortem examination is pending.
Meanwhile, public-spirited citizens assisted the police in locating and arresting James Lord. Upon his arrest, two wounds were found on his abdomen, which he claimed were self-inflicted. Emergency medical personnel were summoned, and Lord was transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he remains under police guard.
The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing.
