Police are investigating an alleged armed robbery at a jewellery and pawnshop located at Trinity Street and Main Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice, which occurred around 10:20 hrs on October 7, 2024.
Initial reports indicate that two men, armed with handguns and wearing hoodies, entered the premises and robbed a customer, who sustained a gunshot wound to the right leg. Upon hearing the commotion, the proprietor, a licensed firearm holder, responded by returning fire, causing the suspects to flee while discharging several rounds.
The suspects ran along Trinity Street and entered the New Amsterdam Primary School compound. One of the men, identified as Terrence John, was later found with a gunshot wound to the chest.
A Taurus 9mm handgun, along with a magazine containing live rounds, was recovered at the scene, along with other stolen items.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to gather additional details surrounding the incident.
