Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred around 8:53 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the intersection of Camp and Lamaha Streets in Georgetown, resulting in the death of 21-year-old Venezuelan national Luis Natera.
The accident involved motor car #PAG 2470, a Honda Vezel driven by 19-year-old Cleveland Peters, and motorcycle #CM 8134, which was being ridden by Natera, who lived at Lot 92 Second Street, Alberttown. Natera had a pillion rider, 25-year-old Venezuelan national Yohennis Moya.
Preliminary investigations revealed that motor car #PAG 2470 was traveling east along the northern drive lane of Lamaha Street at a high speed, while motorcycle #CM 8134 was heading south along the eastern carriageway of Camp Street. The traffic light at the intersection was in flashing mode at the time, with the car facing a flashing red light and the motorcycle a flashing amber. Peters reportedly failed to stop at the intersection and collided with the motorcycle.
The impact flung both Natera and Moya into the air, causing them to land in an empty lot on the southeastern side of the intersection, where they sustained multiple injuries.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and EMTs transported Moya, who was conscious, to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit for treatment. Unfortunately, Natera was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Rickitt. His body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The driver, Cleveland Peters, has been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution. A breathalyzer test conducted on him returned negative results for alcohol. He remains in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
