The New Amsterdam Mayor and Town Council (M&TC) emerged as the overall winner of the Guyana Police Force B Division’s annual duck curry competition, held on Saturday at the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam. The team walked away with the top prize of $200,000 and a trophy in recognition of their culinary prowess.
In a close contest, the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Six claimed second place, impressing the judges and outshining several departments within the force. The RDC team was awarded a trophy and a cash prize of $75,000 for their efforts.
Meanwhile, the B Division Headquarters team secured third place, earning a trophy and $25,000 in cash for their culinary skills.
This year’s competition featured nine teams, each showcasing their talent in a friendly, spirited contest designed to foster camaraderie between law enforcement officers and the wider community.
According to Region Six Commander, Shivpersaud Bacchus, the event is a part of the division’s strategic focus on community partnerships.
“This competition is more than just about cooking—it’s about strengthening bonds and building relationships within the region,” Bacchus stated, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in law enforcement.
Three judges were responsible for selecting the top three teams based on key criteria such as taste, texture, aroma, and presentation.
