Police are investigating an armed robbery that left 27-year-old hairdresser Mockesha Standford, from Wismar, Linden, with a gunshot wound to her leg. The incident occurred around 9:20 PM on Saturday at Standford’s salon, Kesha Slay Zone, located on Coca Road, Wismar.
According to reports, the suspect, described as a male approximately 5’4″ tall, dark-skinned with short dreadlocks, and partially masked, entered the salon armed with a handgun. He allegedly robbed Standford of $130,000 in cash and stole a five-pennyweight gold ring valued at $60,000, belonging to one of her customers, Annilie Pelew.
At the time of the robbery, Standford was in the salon with a colleague, Shameza Hollingsworth, and two customers, Pelew and Shamiah Inniss. The suspect brandished the weapon, took the cash and the gold ring, and as he was leaving, turned back and fired a shot at Standford, hitting her in the lower leg. He then fled the scene.
Standford was quickly taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where she received treatment for her injury. She is currently in stable condition.
Police who responded to the scene recovered a suspected 9mm spent shell. Investigators have interviewed several individuals and gathered useful information as they continue to search for the suspect.
The investigation remains ongoing.
