The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has confirmed the authenticity of a video circulating on social media that shows a member of its ranks pilfering fuel from a service vehicle near a military installation. According to the GDF, the video was intended as evidence of the act but was regrettably shared publicly.
The GDF explained that the theft was uncovered through its recently implemented electronic vehicle tracking system, which alerts officials to any unusual activity involving Defence assets. After receiving an alert of an anomaly, a superior officer responded, catching the rank in the act. Disciplinary action is now underway.
“This interception is a success story of the measures taken to improve our accountability for our assets, and we continue to derive benefits from the complementary deployment of appropriate technologies over the past year,” the GDF stated. The tracking system, introduced to enhance oversight and resource management, reflects the Force’s commitment to using modern tools for stronger accountability.
The GDF reassured the public that it remains vigilant in addressing any illicit activities among its personnel, underscoring its dedication to integrity and professionalism. “The people of Guyana deserve no less,” the statement affirmed.
The Force also used the opportunity to recognize the sacrifices and dedication of its officers and ranks, expressing gratitude to the citizens of Guyana for their continued trust. As part of its ongoing mission to serve the nation, the GDF remains committed to upholding high standards and safeguarding public confidence.
