Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc. (HMGI) recently celebrated a significant milestone with the launch of its Smart Classroom and Modern Kitchen Upgrade Project. This achievement realizes a long-held vision for HMGI, symbolizing a critical step forward in empowering young people and adults, bridging the digital divide, and preparing Guyanese citizens for opportunities in an ever-evolving global landscape.
Since its establishment in 2018, HMGI has positively impacted the lives of over 3,278 students, with young women comprising 87% of the beneficiaries. The newly launched project, featuring a state-of-the-art Smart Classroom and an upgraded culinary training kitchen, signifies a bold expansion of HMGI’s commitment to at-risk youth and community members, providing them with the necessary tools to shape a brighter future.
Supported by the Greater Guyana Initiative, the Smart Classroom and culinary kitchen upgrades focus on elevating learning and professional skills development. The Smart Classroom is a modern educational space that bridges the digital divide, promoting interactive, inclusive learning. It is equipped with DELL All-in-One Desktops, Business Laptops, an 86” Interactive Touch Screen Monitor, and the Logitech RALLY Conference System, supporting both virtual and in-person instruction.
High-speed internet from Enet, coupled with Ubiquiti Unifi’s commercial network security, ensures seamless and secure learning experiences. A solar power system further enhances sustainability, enabling the classroom to remain operational even in remote areas where infrastructure gaps and teacher shortages present challenges.
This space offers essential instruction in Computer Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and English, equipping students with the digital skills needed for today’s workforce and bridging educational disparities in underserved communities.
Lead at the Greater Guyana Initiative, Alicia Bess Anderson noted the greater Guyana initiatives efforts in supporting community projects that brings benefit to all Guyanese. She added that the works executed by the Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc is a demonstration of the organisations commitment towards the development of youths and Guyanese as a whole and therefore the Greater Guyana Initiative is pleased to be part of such a transformative project.
Founder of the Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc, Suresh Sugrim who was also present at the event extended gratitude to the collaborating partner for turning this vision into a reality while creating a haven where many dreams can flourish. “Together we can be the agent of change while building a foundation that extends opportunities not only in Region Six but far beyond the region.”
The upgraded culinary training kitchen will provide practical, hands-on experience in food preparation, cake decoration, and hospitality services, all crucial for Guyana’s growing tourism industry. Additionally, this facility is a valuable resource for adults, including single parents and survivors of gender-based violence, empowering them to build sustainable livelihoods. Through culinary training, they gain the knowledge and skills necessary to start small businesses in catering and hospitality, fostering economic independence and resilience within vulnerable groups.
The Smart Classroom and Kitchen Upgrade Project aligns seamlessly with HMGI’s mission to alleviate poverty through education and workforce development initiatives. By expanding access to quality education, building industry-ready skills, and fostering entrepreneurship, this project contributes to a stronger, more dynamic workforce equipped to meet the demands of Guyana’s evolving economy.
