In a dramatic turn of events, the police have arrested a man allegedly involved in staging a multi-million-dollar robbery to steal cash from a jeweler. Paramdeo Victor, a 37-year-old resident of Rosignol, is in custody after confessing to fabricating a robbery report in an attempt to misappropriate $10,250,000.
According to initial statements made by Victor, he visited the Mahaica Police Station around 12:30 p.m. yesterday to report that he had been robbed by three armed men. He claimed the incident occurred at about 11:00 a.m. on the Unity, Mahaica Old Road while he was transporting a substantial amount of cash to Rosignol after collecting it from a cambio on King Street in Georgetown. The men, allegedly wearing ski masks and dark clothing, reportedly forced him off the road with another vehicle before stealing the cash. Victor further stated that he was transporting the money on behalf of a jeweler from Rosignol.
However, after being questioned by CID ranks, suspicions were raised regarding the authenticity of Victor’s account. Upon further interrogation, Victor confessed to staging the robbery in a scheme to steal the money for himself. He revealed that he had concealed $2 million in his car, which he subsequently surrendered to the police.
Victor also disclosed that an accomplice, identified as Cornell Taylor, also known as “Rastaman,” was holding the remaining cash at Ithaca Village, West Bank Berbice. Acting on this information, police accompanied Victor to Ithaca and later to his home in Rosignol, where they recovered an additional $6 million hidden inside a washing machine in a black plastic bag.
While a total of $8 million has been recovered, the police are now actively searching for Taylor and the remaining funds. Investigations are ongoing as the authorities work to apprehend the alleged accomplice and bring closure to the case.
