A 23-year-old motorcyclist from #77 Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice, tragically lost his life on Friday, November 22, 2024, following a fatal collision on #72 Public Road, Corentyne. The deceased, identified as Burchell Rover, succumbed to his injuries hours after the incident.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that Rover, who was riding motorcycle #CL 3169, was not wearing a safety helmet and was reportedly speeding south along the eastern drive lane. Furthermore, he was not a licensed driver. At approximately 1:20 p.m., Rover lost control of the motorcycle and veered onto the western side of the roadway, colliding with the rear left side of a parked motor lorry, #GYY 6686.
The impact of the collision caused Rover to be flung from his motorcycle onto the roadway, resulting in severe injuries. Public-spirited citizens transported him to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was treated for a fractured right leg. He was later referred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further medical attention. Despite the doctors’ efforts, Rover succumbed to his injuries at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The motorcyclist’s body is currently at the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
