A 23-year-old woman from No. 30 Village, West Coast Berbice, is in serious condition following a violent domestic incident at her home on Friday, November 22, 2024. The victim, identified as Leticia Reynolds, was allegedly attacked by her fiance, Philon Edwards, a 26-year-old Guyana Defense Force Corporal stationed at Base Camp Ayanganna.
According to police investigations, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. and stemmed from an argument between the couple. Edwards reportedly became enraged after accusing Reynolds of allowing her son’s father to visit during his absence, despite her clarifications that no interaction occurred.
The situation escalated when Edwards retrieved a knife and threatened Reynolds, instructing her five-year-old son, Tirik Sears, to leave the premises.
Edwards then allegedly stabbed Reynolds multiple times on her face, hand, and abdomen. As she attempted to flee, he reportedly armed himself with a cutlass, inflicting a deep wound to her neck before fleeing the scene. Severely injured, Reynolds sought help from a relative who transported her to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital. She was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where her condition remains critical.
In a surprising turn, Edwards surrendered at the Weldaad Police Station shortly after the attack, admitting to wounding Reynolds. He is currently in custody as the investigation continues. The police were informed of the incident at approximately 8:45 p.m., and ranks processed the crime scene.
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
