The Government of Guyana is set to commence construction of two call centers in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), an initiative aimed at creating job opportunities and stimulating economic growth. This is according to Region Five Chairman Vickchand Ramphal during an award ceremony held in the region.
The News Desk understands that the call centers will be strategically located, with one in Mahaicony and the other in Hope Town Village, West Coast Berbice.
Chairman Ramphal disclosed that the facilities are expected to provide employment for over 800 persons from Region Five and surrounding communities. “The allocations are already there, the contracts have been awarded, so we are just waiting now to construct the buildings,” he stated.
He noted the transformative potential of the project, adding that the call centers will offer residents sustainable opportunities to earn an income while driving regional economic development. “When those two projects are completed, over 400 people from Region Five will be employed at each center,” he added.
This initiative builds on the government’s efforts to expand employment through infrastructure projects. Last year, four call centers were constructed, two in the Essequibo region and two in Region Six, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to job creation and national development.
