Police are investigating the death of Jabez Jaazuel Williams, also known as “Beggie,” a 22-year-old pork-knocker of Wauna Village, Mabaruma, North West District. The incident occurred on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Nassano Backdam, Region One.
The suspect, Caldale Conyers, a 25-year-old pork-knocker from Pomona Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, was taken into custody after being implicated in the incident.
According to police, officers visited Nassano Backdam around 12:30 hrs on Friday, where they located Conyers at a camp owned by Pernell Hudson, called “Meldrick.” The suspect was informed of the allegations and reportedly provided investigators with details of the incident.
Williams was transported to the Pakera Hospital, North West District, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Later that day, detectives visited the scene, described as an area near the main access trail of Nassano Backdam. The location features a camp constructed with wooden supports and covered by white tarpaulin, surrounded by dense bushes. Investigators photographed the scene and collected evidence, including a piece of wood and a cutlass with visible stains. Both items were secured as part of the investigation.
The suspect remains in custody at the Port Kaituma Police Station as investigations continue.
