Three men lost their lives in two separate accidents on the Corentyne public roads between Sunday night and early Monday morning.
The first victim, Dennis Gilkes, a 64-year-old pedestrian with no fixed place of abode, died after being struck by a lorry around 7:30 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2025, on Williamsburg Public Road. The vehicle, motor lorry GTT 6824, was driven by Nicholas Yadram, a 24-year-old chauffeur from Kilcoy Chesney Village.
According to reports, Yadram was heading west when a motor car ahead of him attempted to overtake another vehicle. At that moment, he noticed Gilkes walking in the center of his lane but was unable to stop in time, despite applying brakes. The impact flung Gilkes onto the roadway, leaving him with severe injuries. He was rushed to Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is currently at Ramoo’s Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, hours later, around 12:15 AM on Monday, February 24, 2025, a head-on collision between two motorcycles at No. 79 Public Road, Corentyne, claimed the lives of two others.
Dead are Keishan Ramnauth, 18, a laborer from No. 60 Village, who was riding motorcycle CN 6641 with pillion rider Adrian Inshan, 22, of No. 55 Village and Ameer Subhan, 21, a supervisor at Queensway Security Service and formerly of B Line Path, Corentyne, who was riding motorcycle CP 3158.
Reports indicate that Ramnauth was heading south at a high speed when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with Subhan, who was traveling north. The impact flung all three men onto the road, resulting in severe injuries.
Public-spirited citizens transported them to Skeldon Public Hospital, where doctors pronounced Ramnauth and Subhan dead on arrival. Inshan, who was unconscious, was transferred to New Amsterdam Hospital for further medical attention.
Investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
