Police in Suriname have arrested a 23-year-old woman, identified as Mamchella Tajuko, in connection with the brutal killing of an eight-year-old boy on Old Year’s Night.
The victim has been identified as Jaden Amor Bhola of Calcuttastraat, Paramaribo.
The News Desk was informed that police responded to the scene, where they discovered Jaden’s lifeless body lying in the living room in a pool of blood. The child appeared to have sustained multiple stab wounds.
According to the child’s 30-year-old father, he had been consuming alcohol earlier in the evening as part of Old Year celebrations with the suspect, who is his girlfriend and the child’s stepmother. He reportedly left briefly to go to a nearby store and, upon returning, spoke with a neighbour and continued drinking.

This reportedly angered the suspect, who accused the neighbour of encouraging her partner to consume alcohol. An argument ensued, and in an effort to prevent further escalation, the father escorted the suspect back home.
Once there, the woman allegedly smashed a bottle on the concrete floor and continued arguing before entering the house, locking the man outside. The father stated that the suspect then began damaging household items and eventually armed herself with a knife, threatening to kill the child.
The man said he attempted to re-enter the house but was unsuccessful. During this time, the suspect reportedly went into the bedroom where Jaden was sleeping and attacked him with the knife.

When the father was eventually able to gain entry, he found his son already stabbed. In an attempt to disarm the woman, he reportedly struck her several times, during which the knife handle broke off.
The suspect was then taken outside, where a neighbour restrained her. The father returned to attend to his son, who was still alive at the time but collapsed shortly after. Police were immediately summoned.
Investigations are ongoing.
