Agriculture Minister, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha, accompanied by Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo), Madanlall Ramraj, convened a high-level meeting with members of the senior management team at GuySuCo’s Head Office at La Bonne Intention. The meeting aimed to tackle critical performance challenges and address ongoing leadership concerns within the corporation.
Discussions centered on strategic planning and the establishment of crop production targets for 2025. The team reaffirmed its commitment to revitalizing the sugar industry and enhancing its sustainability, recognizing its importance to Guyana’s economy and workforce.
The meeting follows a recent announcement by His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who warned of potential management changes should production targets remain unmet. Minister Mustapha echoed the President’s sentiments, emphasizing that the government has made substantial investments to support the industry’s revitalization.
While acknowledging the challenges faced by GuySuCo, Minister Mustapha stressed the importance of accountability and results. He reaffirmed that failure to meet specific production targets would result in decisive managerial actions, underscoring the government’s dedication to restoring the industry to profitability and stability.
