A 26-year-old man suspected of being involved in multiple armed robberies was fatally shot during a confrontation with police ranks late Monday night in Linden. The suspect, identified as Shamar Prince, an unemployed resident of Wall Street, Amelia’s Ward, was pronounced dead at the Linden Hospital Complex following the exchange of gunfire.

According to police, at around 23:45 hrs on July 14, 2025, ranks on mobile patrol responded to information received and proceeded to Prince’s residence. Prince, who lived in the lower flat of a two-storey concrete house along with his girlfriend, 22-year-old cook Whitney Brazilio, was reportedly a suspect in several armed robberies, including a robbery committed earlier that same day on a Chinese businessman.
Upon arriving at the location, ranks called out to the occupants of the apartment. Brazilio opened the western door and engaged the officers, while Prince, who was inside at the time, opened the back door on the north-western side of the apartment and discharged a firearm in the direction of one of the ranks, forcing the officer to take cover. Prince then ran from the apartment, continuing to fire rounds at the police. The ranks returned fire, and Prince was struck and fell to the ground at the side of the yard.
When police approached the wounded man, they found him lying on his back, dressed in a multi-coloured shirt and black denim pants. A .38 revolver containing three live rounds and three spent shells was found next to him, along with a box of 25 additional .38 rounds. Strapped around his shoulder was a black bag which contained his national ID card, a Blu cellphone, $1,040 in Guyana currency, a knife, and approximately five grams of a whitish, rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine.
Prince was placed in a police vehicle and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he died while receiving medical treatment. A medical examination revealed five circular wounds on his body: one to the left side of the head, three to the left upper shoulder, and one to the right side of the chest. The firearm, ammunition, spent shells, and other articles recovered at the scene were sealed and lodged to be sent for forensic examination. Prince’s body remains at the Linden Hospital Complex Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
The police ranks were at the time investigating a report of robbery under arms committed earlier that day on Long Xing, a 38-year-old Chinese businessman from Mackenzie, Linden. Prince was also a suspect in other armed robberies targeting Chinese business establishments in the area. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
