The Police in Region Five are probing a suspected arson committed on the home of 24 year old Rayleen Vanlonge Hughes, which she shares with her two children and husband who is suspected to have set the house on fire on Monday evening.
Efforts to locate the 26 year old man has proved futile and a report was made at the Fort Wellington Police Station.
Hughes told reporters at the scene earlier today that she was in Georgetown where she is being trained to become a pharmacy assistance, when she received the news that her home was on fire. She said her kids were with her mother who resides a few houses away when the fire started.
“So I call the neighbor who living in front my mom and I was like aunty Shanti I hear that my house was on fire and she was like yeah she heard that the man drink poison and something of that sort and them not finding him. The children was at my mom and the house was on fire and when I came home everything was flat.” She added.
She said that family members tried to get in contact with her husband but only his sister spoke to him but he refused to disclose where he was at the time. Hughes is now contemplating her next move since she lost all her belongings in the blaze.
Divisional Fire Officer, Kirkland Harry told the media that they received a call at about 7 hours 45 and when the fire tender arrived at the location, the entire building was fully engulfed. He said firefighters managed to get the blaze under control.
