
Inspector Michael Sutton currently serves at the Tactical Services Unit, bringing a unique blend of legal training, linguistic skill and operational experience to the Guyana Police Force. His dedication to professional excellence is reflected in his impressive academic accomplishments and his steady rise through the ranks.
In 2025, Inspector Sutton graduated from the University of Guyana with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Pass with Credit – an achievement that strengthens his capacity to serve in legal, administrative and advisory roles within the Force.
This accomplishment follows his earlier graduation from the University of Guyana in 2022 with a Bachelor of Social Sciences in International Relations, earned with Distinction. His academic portfolio also includes a B1 Spanish Certificate from the University of Caldas in Colombia (2018) and Advanced Spanish for Professionals from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaiso in Chile (2022).
Inspector Sutton is currently pursuing a Legal Education Certificate (LEC) at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago and intends to further his studies through a Master of Laws in Immigration and International Law. His commitment to ongoing education reflects his belief in the power of knowledge to guide meaningful change.

He enlisted in the Guyana Police Force on March 9, 2016, beginning his policing career in the Immigration Department, serving in both Regions 4 and 7. From 2019 to 2024, he performed duties as a Spanish Interpreter in Magistrates’ Courts across all regions as well as the Supreme Court of the Judicature (The High Court) – an important role that supported due process, fair hearings and effective communication for Spanish-speaking individuals within the justice system.
His career also includes service in Regional Division 4C at the Court Superintendent’s Office before transitioning to the Tactical Services Unit, where he performs duties in his substantive rank.
Inspector Sutton’s promotions reflect consistent dedication and strong performance: he was promoted to Corporal in 2021, Sergeant in 2022 and Inspector in 2025.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his mother, whose unwavering support has been the foundation of his personal and academic achievements.
Inspector Sutton identified immigration, law, human rights, ethics and social justice as the areas of policing he is most passionate about. He believes deeply in fairness, equality and the role of law enforcement in upholding the rights and dignity of every individual.
Offering advice to ranks pursuing higher education, he shared these powerful words:
“As the world adapts, so must we and only through the pursuit of education and scholarships can we become the vehicles necessary to guide that change. Do not waste valuable time wondering whether you can do it – make the leap and witness the hidden potential you possess and the great satisfaction and enlightenment that knowledge brings.”
