The Berbice Chinese Community hosted its 2025 Chinese New Year celebration earlier today at the Berbice High School auditorium, featuring a packed programme that showcased the richness of Chinese culture through traditional dances, cuisine, and customs.
Delivering Chinese New Year greetings on behalf of President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Vickram Bharrat, reaffirmed the significant role of the Chinese community in Guyana’s development. He highlighted the contributions of Chinese businesses, particularly through investment opportunities that have helped transform the country.

“Our Chinese brothers and sisters have brought significant investments to Guyana and to Berbice” Minister Bharrat stated. “We have seen massive infrastructure development, including the construction of bridges, roads leading to the airport, and various other projects undertaken by Chinese companies in Guyana.”
Turning his attention to the natural resources sector, Minister Bharrat noted that many of the country’s major mining companies are Chinese-owned. He pointed to a groundbreaking achievement, Guyana’s first underground mining operation as a testament to their contributions. He further emphasized the government’s appreciation for these efforts and expressed optimism for future collaborations on investment initiatives.
