As investigators continue to probe the surrounding the death of a New Amsterdam man, a 26-year-old from New Amsterdam has since confessed to the murder of 57-year-old Dharmindra Sarabjit, a Drainage and Irrigation (D&I) worker from Vrgheid Village, West Canje Berbice.
Sarabjit’s decomposed body was discovered in swampy area of Vryheid Village, West Canje Berbice, on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Regional Commander Senior Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus told the media that the suspect was arrested following a post-mortem on the deceased and later he admitted to beating the victim while intoxicated until he was unconscious.
The post-mortem revealed that Sarabjit died from multiple injuries, including a fractured cranium and a severed finger.
Bacchus said that the 26-year-old suspect provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the murder. He also confirmed that the investigation is complete, and the file has been sent for legal advice, with charges expected to be laid shortly.
