Growing up in the small community of Williamsburg on the Corentyne, 24-year-old Jonathan Parshotam, better known as Jonnixx Nation, is breaking the norms and stereotypes of his community by excelling in a field traditionally dominated by women—cake making.

Fascinated by the artistry of baking, Parshotam was inspired by his mother, who has been creating stunning cakes for years through her business, Sabrinacakecreations. Witnessing her transform simple pans of batter into beautiful works of art ignited his passion for the craft.
In an interview with THE NEWS DESK, Parshotam shared, “Seeing the process of how a couple of pans of cake can turn into something so beautiful and eye-catching is what drew my attention to the craft.”
Determined to refine his skills, Parshotam turned to YouTube, where he binge-watched countless tutorials on the art of cake making. “Honestly, I spent a lot of time binge-watching videos—it sounds like the opposite of what people might think, but that’s the truth. I’m a visual learner, so that accelerated my progress. I’ve always been good at seeing and copying, and I’m excellent with my hands,” he said.

While his journey has been rewarding, it hasn’t come without its challenges. Parshotam admits that one of the toughest aspects of his craft is managing client expectations while maintaining the high quality and standard he sets for himself. Still, the process of turning a simple baked cake into a masterpiece is what keeps him motivated.
He hopes his path inspires others, especially young men, to step out of their comfort zones and pursue their passions, regardless of societal expectations. “In our local area, it’s common to see women in this line of work. I just believe men haven’t built the courage to step out and embrace what they really want to do, like I have. I enjoy being artistic, free-spirited, and detail-oriented. Where I am now is the result of embracing my true self,” Parshotam expressed.
His advice to others is clear: “Go for it. Make a decisive plan, start learning, create a plan of action, block out the noise from family and everyone around you, and put 110% into the skill. The longer you wait, the longer you delay your potential and the blessings that come along with walking your ordained path. You can do it—I’m rooting for you.”
