A security guard was arrested and is slated to be charged for stealing a .38 revolver along with five rounds of .38 ammunition, property of his employer Professional Guard Service, located in Subryanville.
According to Olton Mars, a 38-year-old Driver employed with Professional Guard Service, at around 07:00 hrs on 2023/11/24, he signed and collected eight .38 revolvers and two shotguns from Sabrina Henry, a 26-year-old Duty Officer employed with PGS.
Mars said that after signing for the firearms, he placed them under the mat in the front passenger seat of the motor car he was driving. He then proceeded to Pradoville/Ogle, East Coast Demerara, where he picked up Horace Thomside, a 23-year-old Security Guard employed with PGS, and who lives in Adelaide Street, Charlestown, to take him to another site located at Saffon Street, Charlestown.
Mars said that after he picked up Thompside, he proceeded to Case Diamond located on East Street, where he issued a .38 revolver to a guard on duty at that site. They then proceeded to NBS and Caribbean Airlines on Avenue of the Republic, where he issued one revolver each to the guards on duty at these sites.
He then proceeded to drop Thompside at his worksite on Saffon and Broad Street. On arrival, he was issued with a .38 revolver. Mars said he then proceeded to a site in Agrícola, East Bank Demerara, to issue another .38 to a guard on duty, and on checking, he discovered that he was not in possession of a .38 revolver and five rounds.
As a result, he immediately contacted Sabrina Henry and informed her of the missing firearm. Several checks were made, including at the various worksites, but the missing firearm was not found. Several persons were questioned, but no useful information was received.
The Police were contacted at around 10:45 hrs on 2023/11/25, after which Mars and Thomside were both arrested.
As a result, Thomside was interviewed by CID ranks and under caution, admitted to stealing the firearm and hiding it under his bed. He then took the Police to his home at Lot 76 Adelaide Street, Charlestown, where a search was conducted in his bedroom, and under his bed the said .38 revolver and five rounds of .38 ammunition were found wrapped in a sock.
Thomside is slated to be charged.
