32-year-old Ashmin Mahadeo of Lot 25 D Williamsburg, Corentyne Berbice was found with a gunshot wound to her neck just three weeks away from marrying the man she shared a seven-year common-law relationship with.
According to information received, at about 07 hours 40 yesterday, Mahadeo was at home when she was visited by her fiance’ who was supposed to take her to get her nails done.
They both then left the woman’s Williamsburg home when family members heard a loud explosion and upon checking discovered the injured woman lying motionless at the gate with blood oozing from her mouth.
Her fiancé reported rushed back into the house and alerted other relatives of what transpired and later returned outside at the scene.
Ashmin’s brother, Naresh Mahadeo told reporters that after hearing the explosion he rushed out of the yard to see whether anyone left the scene while his wife tried to resuscitate his sister.
“A rush and I go out and my wife was right behind me so while she turn her over I run out on the street and I think I woulda see anybody because when I ask him (sisters fiance) he said somebody shoot she but he go in the house we took her to port mourant hospital.” he added.
The News Desk understands that the woman was shot from the back of her neck and the bullet exited and hit a box in the woman’s family yard. Her cell phone as well as the cellphone belonging to her fiance’ could not be found.
Police later recovered an unlicensed firearm which was found hidden in the woman’s bedroom where her fiancé had entered before heading back outside to assist with taking her to the hospital.
Mahadeo was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Hospital where she is said to be on life support.
The fiance’ who works as an engineer with the Ministry of Agriculture has since been taking into custody.
Efforts to contact the Region Six Commander to ascertain whether the bullet recovered is from the illegal firearm found in the injured woman’s bedroom and whether gunpowder residue was recovered from the fiance’s hands, were unsuccessful.
