Three men were arrested yesterday on the Corentyne, as part of Police investigations into the alleged Larceny of Cattle (two bulls valued at $240,000) belonging to Ganisey Parsram, a 63-year-old Pensioner from #64 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
The three men arrested yesterday are Noel Gray, a 26-year-old Labourer; Shermond Thompson, a 44-year-old Labourer; and Oudwin Binda, a 47-year-old Labourer from residents of Corentyne, Berbice.
Chavand Parsram, a 37-year-old cattle farmer and son of the victim, told investigators that his father (Ganisey) had been the registered owner of Brand #OG98 for approximately twenty years and used it to brand all of his cattle, including the two stolen bulls.
Chavand related that at about 16:00 hrs on August 1st, 2024, he secured the two bulls mentioned in a ‘mesh pen’ measuring approximately 20 feet in length and 25 feet in width at the No. 64 Village pasture and left for his residence. On August 2nd at about 07:00 hrs, he returned to the pen to check on his cattle and discovered the two bulls missing.
At about 20:00 hrs last night (Wednesday August 7th), Chavand received a phone call that someone was stealing cattle and loading them in a car at No. 64 Village. He immediately called Springlands Police Station and reported the matter.
Police ranks responded to the call and went to #64 Village, where they intercepted a Raum vehicle with registration number PPP 2810, which was driven by Noel Gray and occupied by Shermond Thompson and Oudwin Binda.
The men were questioned as to whether they were transporting stolen cattle. Police requested a search of the vehicle and found ‘four quarters’ of meat. The Carcasses were found with the brand number mentioned above and suspected to be those of the two stolen bulls.
The three suspects were questioned as to where they were taking the meat (carcass) at that time of the night without the necessary documents. The men found in possession of the carcass had no transit, no veterinary pass or notice of intention to slaughter at the time they were stopped and searched.
They all related that two men (called Jerry and Brooks) gave them the two bulls, and they were taking the meat to Cromarty Village.
They were then told of the offence committed, arrested, cautioned, and escorted to the Springlands Police Station, along with the carcass, and placed into custody pending investigation (Larceny of Cattle).
Police are currently looking to contact ‘Jerry’ and ‘Brooks’, as investigations continue.
