The two men accused of killing 29-year-old Leon Kum of Kilcoy Village on the Corentyne have been remanded when they appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrates Court earlier today.

33-year-old Vishal Deonarine and 23-year-old Vishal Ramsammy, both of Kilcoy on the Corentyne were not required to plea to the charge when it was read to them by Magistrate Peter Hugh.
The court heard that on the 5th July, both accused went to the home of the male whose name was given as Mikey to purchase cocaine. However, Mikey told them that he do not have any cocaine and both accused left and went somewhere else and buy the illegal drug.
thenewsdeskgy.com understands that about 30 minutes later the two accused returned to Mikey’s home and began cursing. They two men then went into Mikey’s yard where they jump in a chicken pen and ambushed Kum who had been sleeping at the time.
Deonarine and Ramsammg held onto the deceased and choke him. One of the suspects who was armed with a blue handle kitchen knife started to stab Kum on his neck and he started to hollering for help. An alarm was raised and both accused then jumped out of the pen and ran away.
Kum was later found motionless in the yard in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
After hearing the case, the magistrate remanded the accused until July 26 and transferred the matter to the Albion Magistrate’s court.
