Police are investigating the tragic death of 63-year-old Paul Devonish, a security guard attached to Sheriff Security, who was fatally stabbed during a confrontation on Monday, August 18, 2025, around 18:30 hrs in Kingston.
The suspect, 29-year-old Nicosie Clement, also a Sheriff Security guard, has since been arrested in connection with the incident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that earlier in the day, around 13:00 hrs, Devonish visited the Barrack Street location of Teleperformance, where he allegedly directed abusive language at a female colleague and forcibly took away her cellphone. An 18-year-old security guard on duty at the time intervened, cautioning Devonish to return the phone. Instead, Devonish reportedly slapped the teen twice, after which the young guard left the scene and went to the Doctor’s Quarters at New Market and Main Street, where his mother, Vanessa Jones, was stationed alongside Clement.
The teen recounted the incident to his mother, who advised him to remain there while Clement later accompanied him back to his workplace to retrieve his lunch bag. At about 18:30 hrs, as the pair walked east along Barrack Street, Devonish approached them on an electric bike. He allegedly taunted the teen, saying he was “lucky” he did not “box off” his head.
Clement intervened, questioning Devonish about his behavior towards the teenager. The confrontation quickly escalated into a scuffle, during which Clement reportedly drew a knife from her pants pocket and stabbed Devonish in his left upper thigh.
Devonish collapsed on the roadway shortly after, bleeding heavily from the wound. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A medical examination confirmed a single stab wound to his upper thigh.
Following the stabbing, Clement allegedly discarded the weapon in the Lamaha Trench before returning to her workplace to collect her belongings. She later went to the teen’s home, where she was arrested by police. During a subsequent video and audio interview, Clement confessed to the stabbing.
Several eyewitnesses have since provided statements as police continue their investigations into the fatal incident.
